Once upon a time, there two little sweethearts who had fallen in love with each other. Eventually, those to infinite twin flames decided they wanted to get married together. Those two ‘marriage-made-in-heaven’ soul mates were Alison and me.
When we decided it was time to get married I knew right away that I needed to come up with creative ideas for a groom wedding speech.
However, little did I know how challenging it would be in getting the creative juices flowing, allowing groom wedding speech ideas to take shape.
To be honest I left it for weeks on end, before it dawned on me that I need to get cracking in writing down an initial draft. So take note of some advice here. Please make the effort to plan ahead if possible to kick start the process. As it is going to take you some time.
I will not lie to you but it is likely you will find the task of your groom wedding speech a bit overwhelming. I know I did and this is perfectly natural.
Who could blame you for this? As there is a great deal to take into account on your wedding day. You will be standing up and everyone will be hearing those marriage vows! So it is like a double whammy to standing in front of everyone again but this time to give a speech.
Needless to say, it is all pretty daunting, to put it mildly!
So that special day was approaching fast. I was trying to think of some good, inspirational and charming or amusing for a groom’s wedding speech, but the truth is I was experiencing writers’ block.
It was at this point that I eventually took the time to sit down with a pen and paper. I just started to write down what ideas would first flood into my mind. Perhaps there are better ways to plan a groom wedding speech but this is a great way to begin kick-starting your ideas.
It is also important to note that you should really use a pen (or pencil) and paper anyway, as this stimulates certain neuron receptors in the brain. So avoid using electronic devices when you are jotting down your speech ideas. There are certain areas of the brain at the frontal lobe that are not used when typing as opposed to writing.
Writing your initial draft groom speech on paper will engage your creativity more. Along with a good mental workout for the brain.
I found it quite difficult at first but eventually it started to become easier as I wrote down details of my past with my future wife. I started to write down sentences as bullet points of where we first met, our shared interests, how long we have been together, and also some of our most fantastic moments together.
This helped me form words about our relationship together and how it developed into something deeper. Along with what we have been through to where we are today.
So when you are at this initial stage of writing the words to your groom speech, it is best not to worry about the chronological order. Also not to worry about any of those dodgy wedding speech jokes! Just write it all down.
The biggest challenge or writers’ block of coming up with some great wedding speech ideas is that you procrastinate and never take action to write your thoughts into words in the first place.
I would say from my experience that by putting on to paper by writing out your thoughts then you have taken the first big step in coming up with ideas for your groom wedding speech.
